For the past two years, players from the WWII Online community and CRS staff have chosen to support the National Down Syndrome Society (NDSS) and the Down Syndrome Association of Atlanta (DSAA) by sponsoring a buddy walk held in Atlanta, Georgia.The Buddy Walk was established in 1995 by the National Down Syndrome Society to celebrate Down Syndrome Awareness Month in October and to promote acceptance and inclusion of people with Down syndrome. Participation by WWIIOL players from around the world has resulted in $5,000USD in donations to the charity.

ndss_buddywalkBobby "Tenpin" Thanepohn and his wife, Jennifer are behind the effort to raise money and awareness for the NDSS and will again be walking in the this year's fundraiser. Tenpin recently posted in the WWIIOL Player Discussion Forums;

As many of you know, my youngest child, Preston is one of the 350,000 persons in the United States who has Down Syndrome... Each year I (and Mrs Tenpin) make a call out to our community to help with our efforts and your response has been overwhelmingly giving. This year, I'd like to report that my beautiful wife is the Chairwoman for the city of Atlanta's Buddy Walk and I couldn't be prouder of her!  6 years ago when Preston was born she literally had no clue about Down Syndrome or what it held in store for Preston and since then, she has made it her goal to help other parents who find themselves in the same situation she was in and to help them with thier questions and struggles and to educate them on what lays in store... She's also helped train EMTs and paramedics how to treat and stabilize children w/ Downs as they are physiologically different than a typical child. EMTs and Paramedics get no training in school for that. Now she's stepped up to this in her quest to help and educate others. Just wow man. Just wow.

If you would like more information about the event and how to donate towards their goal, please visit their NDSS Buddy Walk page.

Tenpin introduced me to this charity last year. I am very picky about what I donate to. Since Tenpin is one of us..and subject to our ridicule..it also makes him subject to our admiration.
