The question of being able to RTB infantry at a mobile spawn point has come up in this Barracks thread. Here is some clarification of how the system works and if any changes may be made.
If a player spawns “by mistake” at a MSP … he will incur the “takes 15mins to be returned to supply” but that’s there because instantly returning to a base supply from “somewhere out in the field” is silly. There needs to be some time penalty.
Since the code cannot tell WHY you are despawning out there (you entered by mistake instead of returning from a mission for example) … there isn’t a viable way to have some time penalty for despawning “somewhere out in the field” away from your base and none for “despawning because I entered the world by mistake” … I think what will work much better than spending time on that issue is the production of what we really want, mobile forward bases your mission leader creates that you can RTB to as well as stage operations from. We could spend time recoding the UI and the database hooks to change how you enter an MSP mission, but the fact is whatever we do to increase choices (and that’s what an MSP spawnable is, a further choice beyond choosing a facility to spawn at) will always lead to people making mistakes or making the wrong choice. The logic of some suggested choices from the community with regard to “how the entry button looks” is clear and easy to understand, in the end however people will still find fault with them because they clicked the wrong button. Perhaps when our UI person has some spare time we can make a more obvious selection button design but it won’t really make much difference to how things happen with the method we employ already. It’s a very small percentage type improvement but could make a small difference to a much larger issue. Better tools to teaching how the system works and understanding it is a better way to affect a larger group of players in a positive manner. |
