TRAINING AIRCRAFT?

Gabriel had a question in The Hangar about Training aircraft: "Was just reading up on the T-6 , and similar types. Author made the claim that one of the reasons USAAF pilots were among the best trained in the world was because we built tens of thousands of these two seat trainers and gave our pilots far more flight time in them. I wonder how hard it would be to modify a Hurricane or P 36 into a 'T' version which has two crew members?"
DOC: Probably a much more useful and far easier (time and manpower wise) way to do this would be to allow a “2nd seat” ability to anyone wanting to “ride with you” to see what you do, when you do it, and how it works out relative to the situation, from the exact same perspective as the pilot who is flying the plane, and according to the actual aircraft that you will be using in combat when you fly on your own. You’re not really in a 2nd seat of a two seater aircraft; you’re inside the head of the pilot while he flies using his eyes.

I have no idea when this would be able to float up the list to a higher priority than it is right now; we thought this was a good idea years ago. It’s just buried under a ton of other stuff we have had put ahead of it.

There could be a faster way to add a training aircraft if we didn't have to make it multicrewed and it could be based on an existing airframe...

For example, taking a Hurricane I and changing it's power and flight characteristics to make it an easier and more forgiving to fly. I'm talking out of school here but it does seem like a trainer aircraft is a good idea.

I hope you guys do manage to implement the psuedo-second seat like other games in the past have. It's an exceptionally useful training tool. :)

Interesting idea. But I'd rather see FoW and the use of scout planes to reveal enemy presence, estimated strength, etc.

I think DOC's idea is best. Being able to ride "with" someone and looking through his eyes seeing everything he sees or do.
