There has been a lot of discussion in the barracks about the High Command; how it’s organized, how it functions, how they manage player expectations and their role in the placement of Attack Objectives (AO’s) and brigade movement. We welcome these discussions and always like to read and discuss thoughtful ideas.  But I've detected some confusion as to exactly what can be done today, so I thought it would be a good idea to dispel some myths and let you know what we are working on.

When discussing the High Command and their role it’s important to keep a few things in mind:

  1. The current High Command structure will not be disbanded.
  2. Attack objectives will not be going away.
  3. Table of Organization and Equipment (TO&E) will not be going away.

I know that this upsets some of you.  Especially those that look fondly back to the “good old days” of wide open fronts, squad action, rapid resupply and a sense of independence.  We played the same game you played back then so we certainly understand your views but we are not going to be going back to those times for reasons that have been discussed many times on the forums, RAT chats, front page articles, developer blogs and read me release notes.

So, what are we doing today?  Well, Joker007 and I are working with our counterparts in Texas and taking a hard look at some “tweaks”.  First, I strongly believe that the HC needs to spend more time in-game than on the forums doing such chores making ORBAT changes, submitting officer evaluations, updating unit pages, managing LOA requests, monitoring who and who hasn’t  logged into the Officer Tools, and approving awards to name just a few.  I want them to do these types of tasks – assuming they are still value added tasks – IN GAME.

This review process has already started.  I’ve gathered about 20 former CinC’s together to review all of the web-based HC tools and let us know which ones should stay web-based, which ones can be moved in-game and which ones we no longer need.  I’ve asked for their help because they have experience in using all of the tools from Basic Officer Tools to the unique CinC tools.

The second item we are reviewing is the Map OIC/RO position.  Again, I’m working with the retired CinC’s to answer one question.  Should the Map OIC position be formalized as an in-game role and how decisions are made as to who fills that role.  If the answer is yes then we I will be asking for experienced Map OIC to help me determine what tools, if any, this position needs.  I will then send those recommendations to the production team for review.

We are also studying a few other things but it’s way too early to announce them now because, quite frankly, we have not made a decision yet.  I hope this clears up a few things for all of you.  I look forward to discussing your thoughts on the High Command on Team Speak, in the forums and via e-mail.

Now, get in-game and kill something!

Thank You TopD, glad to see a rat reaction to all of the talk!

No, that didn't really clear anything up.

Incidentally, I've spent at least a hundred hours as a map OIC (albeit that was in the past) so I could probably lend quite a bit of wisdom/knowledge to your endeavours on that front.

The way the strategic game functions Is much better than it has ever been, and the only way we can move is forwards. Burnout is a huge issue, and yes, getting people in-game and away from doing admin stuff can only help.

Shouldn't any thing be done about the sides balance? ie. the constant overpop on axis side? Maybe this will keep AHC more motivated as well other players.

one thing that definately needs to be added to the map OIC is the ability to place WAY more waypoints, etc to thier map.. maybe triple or quadruple that number. this way they can lay out thier planned defenses/attacks better..

Get our people in game is a tremendous ordeal. It is a big deal for morale of not only his/her subordinates, but for the individual itself.

formalising roles will create huge problems in regards, strategic and tactical operational information. PS: Keitel 100's of hours. I have spent millions of hours, and i'm not good at all. Sincerely fenir

In regards to the constant axis overpop... I would suggest larger bombers on the allied side (lancasters and fortreses). That would be a nice game balancer, as it was during the real thing.

Meaningful Rank... I am sure it has been mentioned on the forums.
At the moment it is HC vs non HC... that needs to change.

Also, the requirements to join HC (set by the players NOT the CoC) have been too restrictive in the past.

Your missing the posts about WHY so many allied players are quitting the game. HC functions maybe some of the reason but certainly not the most serious of reasons.
Read those post and address those problems and more allied players will return.

Started 10 years ago, IMO going back to the open assault is a mistake. Everybody was doing there own thing! There should be a system where once an objective is chosen it should remain for a time. Annoying waiting and then having it called...

Yes, what about number imbalance issues? Why not try spawn queues?

Would it be possible or too late to consider a tool that would let HC see all awards approved in the last week and all orbat changes in?

HC's have to much power when it comes to promotions. The "good ol Boys" club issue needs to be addressed.

CRS will eventually have to retain the 24/7 services of RW trained senior officers to manage this increasingly complex and increasingly realistic gaming experience at the CinC HC level.

Simply put, if players dont want to play the game as a team game then too bad, keep getting smacked up the klacker and try to enjoy it, HC cant MAKE you do anything at all.
