FROM THE DESK OF THE ALLIED COMMANDER IN CHIEF: Via Nagolith Deputy Chief of Staff The drums of war toll on with gains and losses on both sides. Axis forces have manage to push back allied forces but the allied spirit has not died, it goes on. Spirits raised by the return of haikugod, a experienced map oic who's come in punching taking the fight to axis force during US prime time. Also a return of former Cinc daddy Salador from Aussie ski season who's commanding as I write this. Attention was drawn by 4wing's very own Squidrd who in course of four hours killed 48 units, 41 of them being Luftwaffe aircraft! Get in game and turn the ride of this war. Remember fb's are the first line of defense for any town.
AAR of the Week:
TO: Allied High Command FROM: Bulldog, CO - IIIème Corps DATE: 11-18-09 RE: AAR - MapOiC 11-17-09 (22:00-01:00 CST)
Note: Apologize for a poor AAR – I have been ill, and was MOIC while loaded up with Hydrocodone
Overview and SITREP Logged in at approx: 2200, CDT, checked with MOIC, Pictboy3. After checking situation (less than ideal, see below), I immediately went to work sorting out the Division line up, AO/DO situations, and confirmed AHC and player-base ML's where "in-place" for each objective.
The 1re Division l'Infanterie de l'Air HQ was in French training.
When I assumed command, allied forces where in a slight under-pop situation, with somewhat declining "total population".
Bozo312, and Goon7 provided excellent MapXO’s. There where very few officers online. Glacier/Vendetta had NavalOiC, and Kilemail came online, and sorted out the Air BDEs.
The following where the primary attacks: Tillburg - Dropped Turnhout - Dropped Virton - Working (P1) Diest - Dropped (P2/Diversion)
The following where the primary defenses St. Truiden – Lost – Fallback to Teinen St. Hubert - Defended Habay - Defended
The night’s operational plan: 1. Maintain the line through under-pop 2. Keep Div strength pairity along the Ciney to Bastogne front 3. Hold All Defenses (Gilze considered expendable, try to maintain Breda) 4. Re-Order the Divisions, to provide for options when later time-zones could gain the initiative.
A Listing of Major Allied Operations in brief: All Allied attack orders would fall second place to the defenses, during this evenings "under-pop" situation.
Virton - the only allied P1 worth discussing during my tenure, we would pull units of the 5 DINA south from Bertrix/Herbeumont/Florenville to Orval for support of this AO. Also, 2ID (BEF) would support this from the north at Habay. The AO would progress smoothly, until the Habay-Virton FB is lost, and an AO was placed by OKW on Habay turning the 2ID units there from attack to defense. The AO would remain up, until I logged.
Diest/Turnhout/Tillburg - all these where secondary, at best, AO's. All where dropped for other targets.
St. Hubert (Defense) - Some of the most intense fighting of the night was here in St. Hubert. This town would be almost totally overrun twice during my tenure, to be fought back each time. A stout defense of depots would be sufficient to hold the town.
Habay – As stated above, this town switched from being a launch-point to the Virton AO, to being a closely fought defense. We would fight this town back, and eventually clear the EWS by blowing the Virton/Habay FB, but the town would remain under attack until I logged.
St. Truiden - This unfortunately was looking to be a very difficult defense, as it was vastly outnumbered, and the supply situation in the 2eDNA was very poor. Again, as the town became overrun, we fought to hold the depots, and even issued a HAAC, but to no avail. All efforts to relieve supply in St. Tru, where impossible as the 6e RTM was in Egezhee, and too far from the other units of the division. St. Tru would be lost near 23:30, and the units would fallback to Tienen.
At 01:00, needing to log for pain-meds and lack of sleep, I turned the map over to Ruthless.
Summary: Allied forces did a sufficient job tonight, and maintained the their duties on the battlefront during my tenure as MOIC. FB maintenance during “low-pop” is a severe detriment to our success at this time, as can be expected.
Mention in Dispatches None
Conclusion Given the untenable situation in St. Truiden, it was no surprise that it was lost. Even so, this was a hard-fought defense. The fallback to Tiennen was acceptable, and allowed some time to re-structure the lines from Breda south to the Albert Canal, and then again the units from Bertrix south toward the Meuse River.
