FROM THE DESK OF THE AXIS COMMANDER IN CHIEF:

!S Axis  Forces.
Your resilience has been outstanding. We have managed to hold the Allies to a defensible pace as they advance through our first line of southern AF's. Coming back will require the dedication that I know Axis players are capable of. OKW officers depend on dedicated players. Organization is required no more than ever to succeed and there are few better tools for that than Teamspeak and Axis Secure forums.

Axis secure forums are a great way magnify your impact in the game, through planned operations, Map  analysis and many more aspects that make it easier to co-ordinate and organize.

MAP OIC AAR Report

MAP OIC – 3AM – 10 AM CST

I logged into the game and went to Andenne to help setup MSs under MAP OIC mattwitt’s orders. I performed this duty as well as towing 88s and Bofors and running ammo when the time called for it. After the Andenne AO was pulled, I also performed this duty at another location that I can’t recall at this time and ran a solo FB bust at a location that I can’t recall. I was eventually given MAP XO, as I volunteered for it after ltlcloud logged off, but reminded the other officers that I was a brand new officer with no map moving experience but everyone agreed to help me. Was assisted by thorg, KJ, baboon (can’t remember the spelling), and a few others. Boruta later logged on as well. Eventually, they all logged off and while I was still able to get the assistance of other officers, they were all tasked with duties, and I was made the official MAP OIC.

After moving brigades around, I ended up with four in Nandrin and two in Mean. A DO was placed on Mean from enemy-occupied Havelange, so I placed an AO on Havelange from Nandrin. Havelange had four enemy brigades in it, and a DO was issued for Nandrin. However, the six combined brigades on our side were not only able to defend themselves very well, they were also able to capture depots at times in Havelange. In the end, we lost the FB for Nandrin, which fizzled our attack. Although we never stopped trying to get it back, the AO was pulled to save supply for an adequate defense, and the enemy ended up pulling out two brigades from Havelange during the battle and even called off BOTH attacks from Mean and Nandrin in the same time frame. As it stands now, we still have the same setup in Mean and Nandrin, four brigades in Nandrin and two in Mean, with the enemy only having two brigades in Havelange. They’re attacking Huy at the moment, but we have a perfect opportunity to flip the Nandrin FB back to Axis, ruin their Huy attack, and attack Havelange again after we’ve replenished supply.

While we were fighting in Havelange, I placed an AO on Schilde once we had both FBs, but the attack didn’t have enough momentum or boots on the ground. This AO was pulled and placed on Marche, and shortly after that, the Havelange AO was pulled and placed on Champlon, as I had previously moved brigades down to allow for this. Both Marche and Champlon can be attacked from two towns each with three of our towns having two brigades each in them and one having a single brigade, while March and Champlon only have two enemy brigades apiece.

Overall, all AOs placed by me involved outnumbering the enemy if you include all possible attack points. 2:1 in Schilde, 1.5:1 in Havelange, 2:1 in Marche, and 1.5:1 in Champlon. Even though it was my first time as MAP OIC, I decided to go on an offensive and attempt to keep momentum and was able to do so because of our great Axis team. We were always able to have at least one FB open at all times and the playerbase was responsive to my advice and requests for assistance. I did my best to motivate, encourage, and congratulate them as best as I could, and I think it worked. They were able to see me in the field at Mean while I helped defend CPs, recap CPs, kept up intel and communications, approve marks, and kept up with MAP OIC duty. Every so often, I saw fit to drive out an MS when needed and tow out 88s as long as the situation allowed for it or in the case of emergencies, such as intel about incoming ETs. While we didn’t advance while I had the map, we also didn’t fall back either and made the Allies eat up TONS of supply. I imagine their morale wasn’t very high after all that brutality either.

MAP OIC duty was handed off to Gundahar, as I was forced to log after eleven hours of slaughtering the enemy.

During my first time as MAP OIC, I learned many things. The first thing that I learned wass that for myself, the feeling of being lost and overwhelmed went away as soon as I was able to become aware of the map and the battles going on. While I sometimes had to ask what commands needed to be used for certain actions, I was still able to know what the purpose of the commands were because I was able to watch everything play out. I was able to go from “what command should I use?” to “what’s the command for this action?” Once I started pulling AOs and placing my own, I really started getting into it and started having a “feel” for what was going on.

The next thing that I learned was the importance of fellow officers and a willing playerbase. I learned not to micromanage if I had available help. Fellow officers are here to help each other out and are always willing to do it. I greatly appreciate that and am willing to do the same. I also found that simply asking for assistance or for an objective to be completed can get a lot accomplished. Communicating with the playerbase and letting them know what is going on and what results you’re trying to achieve can go a LONG way toward getting the job done.

I also learned about the importance of having confidence in one’s self. At first I was overwhelmed, but eventually felt comfortable and was proud of myself. While I was sure to let everyone know that if they had any problems they needed to contact me especially because it was my first time as MAP OIC and I wanted to make sure I did the job right, I made sure to never show doubt in myself, as players aren’t comfortable with officers who don’t have confidence. Afterall, we’re officers, and the players expect us to be on our best game at all times.

Last but not least, I learned that actions speak louder than words. It’s one thing to tell people that you need a FB flipped back to Axis. It’s quite another to prove to them that it can be done by driving over and doing it all by yourself. It’s one thing to tell them you need an MS up and ATGs towed out. It’s quite another to setup an MS, tow out an 88 with a HT, spawn another opel to reload an 88, and then setup another MS on top of all that. When the playerbase has seen you in action and is aware of what you’re capable of doing all on your lonesome, they instantly gain confidence in the fact that they have a group of buddies around them willing to help them get their job done.

I thoroughly enjoyed my opportunity to be MAP OIC for the first time, and eagerly look forward to my chance to do it again. Thank you to all that helped me out in learning the ropes, and thank you to the players that allowed my first experience as MAP OIC to be the awesome experience that it was.
