FROM THE DESK OF THE ALLIED COMMANDER IN CHIEF:

FROM: Bulldog
RANK: Allied Deputy Chief of Staff
DATE: 24 June 2010

Allied Status
We have made great gains, our front is well aligned and our forces are ready and eager. Allied population is steady.

Allied Ground and Naval forces have been amply covered by well organized air units. Axis factories have been hit hard and the Allied Air Forces are having great battles against their Luftwaffe foes, as the forward airfields are within reach of each other.

The ground battles are truly epic! The fighting over Stavelot this following week has been some of the most exciting seen in a long time. The southern and central fronts are all filled with great battles, and both sides are well positioned for more terrific online battles!

NOTE:
The Allies are greatly saddened by the news or the loss of two great and respected players.

Sesh609, a greatly respected Axis player, and member of KGW.
Pappy2, a great Allied player, Hussar, and former Allied Commander In Chief.

Our deepest condolences go out to all their families and friends.

AAR June 20 - Sunday Axis Squad Night (SASN) by Erthel
________________________________________
It was about 2PM GMT when I logged in. Cometus or Karelean, I think, was fixing the map in preparation for the SASN. I took the map soon after joining, and we were more or less even pop.

Most brigades were well set, and we had some AOs going around the N (St Truiden, Oost) nad S (Luxembourg), along with 4wing softcapping towns around Metz. I would like to mention that Metz was lost because of it left EMPTY, without even a navy brigade, 2 nights before. Not blaming anyone, just pay atention to those details guys!

Spa was under heavy axis presure, and it took some hours to finish its liberation. Seems that axis wanted it to buff Verviers for their SASN. Fortunately our troops could hold it and the brigade, while trashed, switched with Stavelot inf and axis pulled the ao due lack of their own supply to keep on it. Axis were also hammering Diest, but we were containing them.

About that time (4PM GMT), Luxembour was contested and with only 1 allied FB left. I was about to pull the AO as too much armor was being wasted there. Announced on ops channel. 2 guys started blaming me for pulling it. Then suddenly the 3 ABs go allied, and a whole axis division bounces back to the same town, leaving axis with only 1 link to Lux for the next 30 mins. Awesome! coul have used a PM from the guys who blamed me telling me that :P. So we finish Lux and free up 2ID, that goes backline. Funny to mention the Mersch-Echternach FB fight, both FBs were next to each other. We had to kill loads until our last vickers efectively locked the FB and we could sap it.

The SASN started. It was around 6PM when the Spa thing came up again. Axis started moving brigades towards Malmedy and Verviers, and hammered SPA infantry brigade with a whole division and the whole lultwaffe. We had defense out before that came, but it was worthless, I bet we had less ground defenders than axis pilots. Had to call fallback after the brigade was drained and only AB left. We started defense from FB, and axis had to fight every meter ahead towards it. After 30 more mins they were coming, and allied 1ID was coming from Manhay to help. French armored was stick in Stavelot for the time to come.

After the Spa FB was down, called all the PB to set strong defense all around Stavelot. We made axis fight for every inch between their FB and Stave, and Malmedy too. Axis moved 2 divisions worth of supply in Spa and Verviers, and 1 into Malmedy. French and british HQs were moved into Stavelot while the british inf brigades were coming. Brit 2ID was moving N on forced marches to aid as soon as possible.

Riverdog took Stavelot OiC (thank you A LOT on that one).

The Stavelot countryside defense was EPIC. It took a pair of hours for the axis to efectively control the N hill 2km N of Stavelot, just 1km S from their FB. Also we had MSPs all over E forest under town, and squads working their own DMS NW, NE, E and N hill. Special mention here to Genxs, for leading the north ridge defense and later the retake of it, and also Mosquit for tirelessly driving DMSPs out.

Lultwaffe showed in NUMBERS. Thanks Infinity, the moment Air OiC for managing the situation. Our air was even able to kick LW out of Stavelot for some minutes at least three times during the battle. To mention that our 23'021'321842 boffors helped out :-).

AB was more or less continuosly AQ. I was more concerned about boffors suply than any other thing.

After 88s were set on N hill, we had a great fight over the valley N and NE over the town. It was 2km of no-mans land, with the N hill and Town hill saring at it. NW was very fun, as it was a bit rough terrain with multiple ridges and we had inf/armor fights all over it. E forest was filled with ETs/EI and we had a lot of fun clearing it (and a lot of concern too).
The battle over the valley lasted something between 4 and 6 hours, cannot tell for sure. 3 commandos came into stavelot to help, also 2ID moved up enough in time to put 5IB for resupply, and all ended drained. Axis put 4 brigades in Spa and 3 in Malmedy. Genxs was desperatelly leading the valley defense, it was something like Verdun WW1, with our infantry being killed by artillery from N hill, and axis infantry from our Stavelot hill. At about 11PM GMT (SASN ended at 0AM), both sides were on stalemale, out of armor and the whole LW/RAF/FAF drained to hell. Tigger6 tool Air OiC from infinity and was screaming about being the first time he found no supply at all anywhere to refill front AFs.

Fortunately for us this time, tier 1 just came at that point, and our fresh supply of stuarts, a15, DACs and M1 came at full to our brigades, so we were able to push the axis out of the valley. Some of our bombers got to the N hill and straffed some 88s, so we could start pushing axis out of the valley, while M1s covered the advance from town. Got some 3hs killed around there.

A few before 0AM, last DMSPs were set to the N hill assault, and Genxs (again) lead the individuals over that hill with not much more than vickers support, having a GREAT infantry battle over the ridge, with allieds assaulting it from south with light armor support, and axis responding just with infantry and some bofors.

At about 0AM, N hill was secured, and SASN ended. Axis despawned in masse (I think only to map, not logged out) and we suddenly had 40 secs spawn delay, and allied morale over clouds.

I know a lot of squads worked here, from air to ground, but really cannot remember them all, and I dont want to piss anyone. On my part, I would make a ribbon specially for this epic battle, wich is going to set new standards for WWIIOL, along with Bastogne street fight. Need a RAT to record one of those incredible battles please  .

Final result was: 3 axis divisions wasted, almost 2 allied divisions wasted, whole RAF/FAF/LW wasted. We lost Spa, they buffered Verviers. Also we lost Diest, but we took Luxembourd and fixed our lines S. Overall, EPIC day and good defense against axis max effort. Congrats to all allieds for great work on Sunday.

Forgot to mention! during the Stave all-in, we lost Diest again due insufficient defenders. Hate it, but I think we were far underpop and could not help it any way.

EDIT: On my part, it was VERY fun when i leaked a belford right behind axis lines max distance, and we flooded their PZ ZoC with sappers/grenadiers on the valley, lol, that was fun and we spreaded chaos all over. Also got some commandos on N hill and wiped out some 88s and tanks over there. So bad they had inf defending, and that the 88 came back in short.
