Attack Key to Allied Defense

The Wehrmacht assault on Julich on the early hours of July 18 was fierce. As DE forces invested the town, the Julich-Bergheim Depot was successfully captured, and German forces flooded the town. As the defenders re-grouped, the German Army quickly succeeded in taking more depots. The call went out to get the Bergheim-Julich FB down, to stop the flood of Axis forces.

Lt. Colonel Falcongt answered the call, and immediately moved a Laffly to a suitable position to get sappers to destroy the forward base. During a hectic initial 20 minutes, a small team of sappers placed charges on the INF, and almost brought it down, until German defense more than tripled after the initial charges. With no less than 4 bofors, 3 tanks, and a squad of infantry defending the German FB, the mission's MSP was destroyed. After a few moments, all mission members where reported KIA/MIA, save a single sniper, Bulldog, and a sapper and mission leader, Falcongt.

Refusing to accept defeat, the remaining mission members kept a low profile and patiently waited for an opportunity to get the last two charges on the FB's vehicle spawn, and harass the enemy in any way possible. During this time, enemy AAA and Infantry were continuously kept off balance by the Lt. Bulldog, sniping from alternating positions north of the FB, effectively drawing the enemy defenders' attention away from Falcongt's approach.

The arrival of another sapper gave the opportunity needed for a rush to the vehicle spawn! As the bofor's pounded frantically, the last two charges were placed, and the forward base was destroyed after an intense hour long engagement.
