AAR - A Drop to Remember

Day 2 Campaign #47 12am - The German paratrooper sat silently in awe as the noisy engines of the Ju 52-3M chugged into life. A thin smile spread on the young man's face as he thought about finally getting a chance to put his training to good use. He checked and re-checked his kit during the short flight and he didn't even notice the rolling and bumping as Werwulf expertly manoeuvred the  iron beast through the skies.

Only too soon the call went out, "Stand Up, Hook Up" and all were on their feet, eager to take their turn to fall to their destinies. Without hesitation Nimrah took his place with his fellow soldiers and waited for the call. Before long the first of the paratroopers fell from the sky, their target the Ramet Forward Base on Nandrin.

A quick turn, a slow arc round and Nimrah was out the plane heading straight for the earth. He felt the welcome pull of his chute and casually scanned the ground for enemy infantry. Spotting none he maneauvered himself as best he could to head for his target the Ramet-Nandrin Depot. He was happy to see Harrisc1 had made it safely from the plane, although a fair distance from himself.

He landed short just outside the city limits without any incident. Taking cover in a tree-line he checked himself and scanned the city outskirts. Spotting nothing but a lonely AT emplacement he headed through the hedge to cut around behind them. Once in close he darted up close to the AT emplacement and lobbed a potato masher inside...first kill of the day.

He dropped to his stomach and crawled to the edge of the field he found himself in. Realising no one had bothered to take out this AT emplacement, he decided to make sure the rest were dealt with and made a bee-line for the machine gun emplacement he spotted next to the fuel tank. He crawled up very close behind the MG and quickly checked his exposed left flank, sighting nothing he dropped another masher into the gunners laps.

The larger than necessary explosion turned the smile into a grin, followed by a scowl as the prone soldier noticed an enemy rifleman running through the square blatantly defying all logic.....deciding the distance did not allow for a sufficient advantage in an LMG vs. Rifleman fight Nimrah carefully pulled back and around to wait for the rifleman to run around the other side of the fuel tank, smack bang into the bullets made by the reich.

Almost immediately Nimrah see's movement to his right, swinging the nose of his LMG around to meet the danger, he pulls the trigger the second he notices the enemy uniform and his aim seems to hold more true as the officer's cap comes into focus. The shot rings out and the officer falls on his face. Only too late does Nimrah notice the officers lackey and is taken with one shot from his rifle. As the sky fades to black and Nimrah's life leaves him, he is left with one thought "BEST PARATROOP DROP EVER!!"
