THE
'06 CONVENTION WAS A HUGE SUCCESS
SEE YOU IN '07 !!
This year's convention is being held at the GREEN OAKS HOTEL. This historic property in Fort Worth has been a favorite place to stay by many Hollywood stars and other notables. It once was a regular stop for Elvis Presley- there's an Elvis suite to this day.
The hotel is centrally located in Fort Worth and is only minutes by car to many of the best attractions such as the Stock Yards, Cultural District and shopping. Located within short walking distance is the Ridgmar Mall, Zboan Municipal golf course and New Orleans Nights- a well known gentleman's club. It has a restaurant on-site as well as swimming pools and tennis courts. The majority of the convention events will be held in the hotel bar which will be closed to the public for the duration of our event. It has a fully staffed/stocked bar, pool tables, big-screen TV, dance floor and karaoke- a private party like you've never seen! A special room rate of $70/night (single or double occupancy) is being offered to convention attendees.
Call to make room reservations (817) 738-7311 or visit their website.

We are extremely honored to present Lt.Col. James "Maggie" Megellas, the 82nd Airborne's most decorated officer as our special guest speaker on May 27th. In mid-1943 James Megellas, known as “Maggie” to his fellow paratroopers, joined the 82d Airborne Division, his new “home” for the duration. His first taste of combat was in the rugged mountains outside Naples. In October 1943, when most of the 82nd departed Italy to prepare for the D-Day invasion of France, Lt. Gen. Mark Clark, the Fifth Army commander, requested that the division’s 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, Maggie’s outfit, stay behind for a daring new operation that would outflank the Nazis’ stubborn defensive lines and open the road to Rome. On 22 January 1944, Megellas and the rest of the 504th landed across the beach at Anzio. Following initial success, Fifth Army’s amphibious assault, "Operation Shingle", bogged down in the face of heavy German counterattacks that threatened to drive the Allies into the Tyrrhenian Sea. Anzio turned into a fiasco, one of the bloodiest Allied operations of the war. Not until April were the remnants of the regiment withdrawn and shipped to England to recover, reorganize, refit, and train for their next mission. In September, Megellas parachuted into Holland along with the rest of the 82d Airborne as part of another star-crossed mission, Field Marshal Montgomery’s vainglorious "Operation Market Garden". Months of hard combat in Holland were followed by the "Battle of the Bulge", and the long hard road across Germany to Berlin. Megellas was the most decorated officer of the 82nd Airborne Division. His own accounts can be read in his captivating WWII memoir, ALL THE WAY TO BERLIN: A PARATROOPER AT WAR IN EUROPE. Lt. Col. Megellas will be signing copies of his book immediately following his presentation at the convention. Read more about Lt.Col.
